«Piano Solo»

Category A


Stage I (not to exceed 20 minutes)

1. J.S. Bach. Prelude and fugue from “Well-tempered clavier”. 

2. Sonata by J. Haydn, W. Mozart or L. Beethoven (may be performed in parts).

3. One virtuoso etude of the following composers: M. Moszkowski, F. Chopin, F. Liszt, S. Rachmaninov, A. Scriabin.


Stage II (not to exceed 25 minutes)

1. F. Chopin: Nocturne. 

2. One composition from the following composer-romanticists: F. Schubert, C. Weber, F. Mendelssohn, R. Schumann, F. Chopin, F. Liszt.

3. One composition from the following composers: P. Tchaikovsky, A. Scriabin, S. Rachmaninov, S. Prokofiev, D. Shostakovich, C. Debussy, M. Ravel.

Category B


Stage I (not to exceed 25 minutes)

1. Polyphonic composition with fugue by J.S. Bach, G. Handel or D. Shostakovich 

2. One composition by F. Chopin form the list mentioned below: Ballades, Scherzo, Barcarolle Fis-dur op. 60, Fantasia f-moll op. 49; Polonaise fis-moll op. 44, Polonaise As-dur op. 53, Polonaise-Fantasia op. 61, Andante Spianato and Grand polonaise op. 22.

3. One composition at free choice.


Stage II (not to exceed 40 minutes)

1. A. Scriabin: Two poems op. 63, or op. 69, or op.71. 

2. One composition from the following composer-romanticists:
a. F. Schubert. Sonata, “Wandererfantasie” C-dur op. 15;
b. F. Chopin. Sonata b-moll op. 35, Sonata h-moll op. 58, 24 preludes op. 28;
c. R. Schumann. Sonata fis-moll op. 11, Symphonic Etudes op. 13, “Kreisleriana” op. 16, Fantasia C-dur op. 17;
d. F. Liszt. Sonata h-moll;
e. J. Brahms. Sonata, Variations and fugue on a theme by Handel B-dur, op. 24.

3. Any composition of the composers of XX-XXI centuries.


Stage III (not to exceed 40 minutes)

Recital: free program except compositions performed in the previous stages. 

«Piano Duo»


The Competition program must meet the following demands:
a) free program with the sounding duration of no more than 20 minutes;
b) the program can consist of original compositions as well as of published versions for two pianos and for piano ensemble in 4, 6, and 8 hands;
c) performance of separate parts of a cycle composition is admissible (as well as any other cycle composition within the time duration limit);
d) performance of piano versions of concertos for piano and orchestra is not admissible as well as piano compositions for four hands may not be performed on two pianos;
e) the compositions of the competition program may be performed from music;

The Jury will appreciate
f) performance of original compositions for piano ensemble;
g) competition programs consisting of classical and romantic compositions.
